Abstract

Restricted by the reduced seasonal demand, which resulted in the supply-demand imbalance, Taiwanese desktop PC shipment volume and value are estimated to both decline in the fourth quarter of 2008. Taiwanese desktop PC shipment volume in the fourth quarter of 2008 is expected to reach at 11.02 million, down 10.5% year-on-year. Coupled with the rise in inventory levels and the decrease in shipment volume, brand-name vendors have requested a reduction in contract prices of desktop PCs. In addition, due to a decline in prices of key components, including chipsets, memories and chassis, desktop PC ASP (Average Selling Price) was affected in the fourth quarter. As a result, Taiwanese shipment value in the fourth quarter is estimated at US$3.15 billion, with a year-on-year decline of 13.9%.
